The Victoria Cross won by James Welch from Stratfield Saye, near Reading, is currently in the collection at The Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum, Salisbury and the museum attended the unveiling of a memorial stone in his home village last Saturday 29th April 2017.
The special ceremony was held exactly 100 years to the day since Lance Corporal Welch of the Royal Berkshire Regiment won the VC during the Battle of Arras on the Western Front during the First World War.
The ceremony is part of a nationwide Government project to honour First World War Victoria Cross recipients by laying commemorative paving stones in their birthplaces.
