Today is Tofrek Day…marking the anniversary when the Berkshire Regiment became the Royal Berkshire Regiment, or to be precise the Princess Charlotte of Wales’ Royal Berkshire Regiment as it was known. The Royal title was granted after the 1st Battalion were victorious from an unplanned attack during the Battle of Tofrek in Sudan, 22 March 1885. As part of the new title the Regiment’s facings changed from white to blue. Today we’re flying the Royal Berkshire flag – blue background with gold Chinese dragon motif – at the museum in honour of the occasion. For more information on Tofrek Day visit our website:
