Home of the Infantry Regiments of Berkshire and Wiltshire

Relatives of Corporal Welch VC visit the museum.

The niece of Lance Corporal James Welch who served with the Royal Berkshire Regiment and who won a Victoria Cross during the Battle of Arras in 1917 visited the museum recently to learn more about him and view the medal. Accompanying Mrs Hazel Gordon were her granddaughter Mrs Donna Nicolson and Great Granddaughter Mallory Nicolson. This was the first time they had seen the medal.

Mallory will be visiting the battlefields in France with her school in Swindon next month and wanted to learn more about her relative. What a tale she will now have to tell to her school friends!

The three are pictured holding the James Welch's Victoria Cross.
