During the winter closing period we have been busy preparing for the new season by carrying out research and producing artefacts for two new exhibitions and a new display cabinet for recent acquisitions.
The exhibition to coincide with 'The 50th Anniversary of The Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment' is now complete, except for last minute signs. We have three new manikins dressed in various uniforms, photographs and artefacts on display that have not been seen by members of the public before. There will also be a touring exhibition which will be used during the 50th Anniversary celebrations which are being held on the Isle of Wight in June this year.
For the War & Peace exhibition we now have on display various artefacts spanning a 250 year history that have not been on show before. For the display panels we will be using documents from our archives that date back to 1790 and include letters from soldiers fighting on the front line to their loved ones, extracts of poetry and unusual stories written by soldiers, thus producing a personal aspect. Also on display will be projected images from our photograph collection.
The 'Recent Acquisitions' case is displaying new and recent items donated by members of the public and include photographs and documents.
