Battle of Amiens 100 years ago today. This is a diary entry from our Archive collection. It was written by Private Cash who served with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Berkshire Regiment on the morning of 8th August 1918. According to the war diaries, the 2nd Battalion were positioned about 50km north west of Amiens at Abbeville in France, but they still felt the effects of the battle.
It reads "8th August Stuff flying about in night. Raid on area our left."
We think this diary was kept in Private Cash’s pocket and written at the time of the battle.
Private Cash survived the war.
