Entry A platoon of 50 other ranks under 2/Lieuts BURGESS and AVELINE raided the enemy trenches E of COURCELETTE and took prisoner 2 officers and 50 other ranks. Zero hour was 3 am on the 5th. Our casualties were Sec Lieut BURGESS seriously wounded, 1 OR killed and 11 wounded. Sec Lieut BURGESS was awarded the DSO by the C in C on the same day. Battn HQ moved to AVELUY leaving 2 Coys in WOLFE HUTS, one in WOLSELEY HUTS and one in AVELUY. Hard frost (27 deg)
