Regiment | 1st Royal Berkshire |
---|---|
Location | France, DELVILLE WOOD |
Entry | Relieved 22nd RF 4.15am. Battalion at this time was only 280 strong and was in consequence formed into 2 Companies, A and D = A, B and C = B, and to make up this small number 20 men from the Transport and 20 men from the Drums were taken for duty with companies. Both companies were in the front line, 3 companies of the 1st KRRC were in support. During the relief there was considerable trench mortar activity on the part of the enemy. Our artillery were warned of this and fired with howitzers on the positions where enemy TM's had been located, apparently put them out of action as they did not fire again during the day. Enemy artillery were fairly active during the day. Relief of the Battalion by 7th BORDER REGIMENT at 10pm. |
