Entry All quiet until about 5pm in the afternoon when the Germans exploded a mine on our right and followed it up with a very heavy bombardment, which was not however followed by any infantry attack. HEADQUARTERS TRENCH was lightly shelled with fizzbangs. Coys in the front line were busily employed in cleaning the trenches. The right front Coy was employed in drainage of the line under RE. The German infantry opposite were still inactive. By order of Brigade we sent over several English newspapers and were given 3 copies of the "Hamburger Freundeblatt". Total numbers with Battn 21 Officers 640 other ranks. Signed L C May Lt Col Commnd 1st Royal Berks Regt.
