Location | France, C2 Subsector |
Entry | Quiet night. More wire was laid by the Right Front Coy (D). Work on all parapets continued. The Left Coy (A) worked at reclaiming Orchard Trench. Pumping and baling operations continued. Reserve Coy continued work on Old British Line. The 2nd Div Artillery (9th, 16th and 56th Batteries) relieved 12th Div Art in this sector. Between 8 am and 10 am the Left Coy was shelled by 4.2 howitzers. No damage was done. About 7.30 am two groups of Germans, each about 50 strong, were observed on a ridge 1700 yards to the front of the centre of our right Coy. The artillery were warned but could not pick up the mark. Wire entanglements were seen where these two groups were. It was therefore presumed that they were working on a new defensive line. |
