Entry | This was to be allotted to battalion training but any attempt to carry this out was impossible. Lt Tizard proceeded to the Divisional Bomb School at FOUQUEREIL on a course of instruction, relieving 2Lt Frogley who returned this day. Programme of work was issued to Coys. This included simple outpost schemes and the training of section and platoon leaders. Great stress was laid by the Division and Brigade on the training of men to work with their tube helmets on, we had about 80 issued for instructional purposes, these were allotted to different Coys each day, the medical officer attending each parade. The helmets were kept on for about half an hour at a time, and the men were exercised in doubling and marching. It was found that with practice the inconvenience of wearing these helmets was lessened considerably. A class for instruction in the LEWIS GUN which had formed on the 1st of January was dispersed and a new one formed as the Commanding Officer considered it advisable to have as large a number of men as possible trained in the use of the gun. Lieut Jenwood the late Machine Gun Officer was in charge of the class. |
