Entry New Years Day. 1st Day of Work according to Divisional programme. Company training including arms drill, squad drill, physical training and bayonet fighting. Musketry (care of arms, firing exercises and rapid loading). Short lecture by Company Commanders. In addition, the Brigadier ordered that the march past be practised daily during the preliminary stages of training. Hours of parade were 8.30-9.30, 9.45-10.45, 11-12.15, 12.15-12.45 as ordered by the Brigade. Owing to the weather and state of the country, the greatest difficulty was experienced in getting ground suitable for training. A & C Companies managed to get orchards, but B & D were forced, so far as part of the companies were concerned, to do most of their work on the road. Officers in the Battn mentioned in Sir J French's dispatch. Capt Sharpe, Capt Frizell, T/Capt West, Lieut Jerwood. 2/Lt Pugh rejoined from T.M Battery.
