Location France, SAILLY LA BOURSE and Y4
Entry Bde relieved 36th Inf Bde 12th Div in trenches. Battn relieved 8th Battn R.F's in subsection Y4. Right on SAVILE ROW and left on junction NORTHAMPTON and MUD trenches. Relief complete about 1 pm. A Coy right front. D Centre. B Left. A Company of 5th Kings attached to Battn and placed in support in OLD ENGLISH LINE. Condition of trenches with regard to mud was appalling. In some places well over the knees. Part of line held by Battn was part of HOHENZOLLERN redoubt captured from Germans. Consequently line was very close to enemy (about 60 yards). Practically no wire in front of trenches. Both sides bombed throughout the night. 6th Buffs of 37th Bde on our right, 1st KRRC on left.
