Entry | 14 wire knife rests carried up to Ridley Walk last night, 7 pieces put in position from Sap No 5 (A2 area) towards Sap No 2. Three pieces put out from Sap 2 towards Sap 5. Work interrupted by enemy sniper from brickstack "A". 1 casualty so work ceased for the night. The task of wiring together No 5 and No 2 saps handed over to 5th Kings Regt for completion. Trenches everywhere passable - this was most creditable considering adverse weather conditions. 9.15am. Relief by 5th Kings (L'pool Regt) started. Complete by midday. Great care was taken in handing over trench stores which were found in a state of confusion. In one dugout in PARK LANE we found 61 boxes of SAA and 968 bombs entirely unaccounted for. On relief the battalion moved to garrisons in immediate support. Battn HQ in HARLEY ST No 7. A Coy PONTFIXE North. B Coy PONTFIXE South. D Coy 2 plat CUINCHY SUPPORT POINT, 2 plat CAMBRIN SUPPORT POINT. A Coy bathed in excellent baths at the "Ecole de Filles" HARLEY STREET. All men in B Coy at PONTFIXE SOUTH had either beds or palliasses. The work of making palliasses was carried out by the Armourer Sergeant at B Coy billets. 1 casualty. Slight wound. 2/Lt C S Cook, 2/Lt J C Dyson joined the Battn. Lt Hilliard back from leave. Capt Ellis and Lt Hilliard retd to CHOQUES. |
