Entry | Very quiet day. The trenches in this sector A1 - which are new to us - are very inclined to fall in. Sandbags are rotting. Fatigues busy all day repairing trenches. 6.30am A 'cylinder' which had been buried by a minenwerfer on the 26th inst was dug up in QUARRY TRENCH. Great preparations to deal with escaping "accessory" as jacket had been damaged by the minenwerfer. However, it must have all oozed away because nothing happened. 25 jackets brought back to trenches and put in recesses in trench between La BASSEE Rd and GUN St. All recesses sandbagged up. Carrying fatigue 10 men and NCO and digging fatigue 6 men and NCO supplied to RE for dug out in TUNNEL ST. Capt G M Sharpe arrived 1st Battn. He had been adjutant to 4th Battn 48th Divn. |
