Entry Battalion acting as vanguard with 1 sect 11th Fld Co RE passed 6th Brigade starting point at L'HOPITAL, PONT D'ARCY at 4.45. Cleared pontoon bridge at 5am. Then on to MOUSSY where 6th Bde forming front on line between?-MOUSSY-SOUPIR. One troop 14th Hussars protective cavalry. After passing LA METZ FERME heavy shell fire from BRAYE heights. 2 coys 1/KRR moved to each flank. 1/Kings Rgt moved to support of right flanking Coy but could not make ground. By 12 noon [3 or 4 words unreadable] E of BRAYE. At this point 1/KRR lost one machine gun through rash advance. Withdrew to line ECLUSE[?] (on canal) Spur due East of last E in CROIX SANS TETE, left thrown back. A & B Coys battle outposts C & D with HQ in reserve at LA METS FERME. No incident during night. All troops digging in. Very wet. Casualties: Killed Lt RGB Perkins. Other ranks 2. Wounded: Lt. U.S. Hopkins. 2/Lt Y.R.D. Wigan. Other ranks 37.
