Entry Church Parade was held at 9.30am. Christmas dinners were held under Company arrangements. The cost of al extras was met by a subscription from the Officers in proportion to their pay, - extras included pork, fruit, beer, coffee and vegetables. "A", "C" and "D" dined together as Companies . "B" by platoons, HQ, Band, Stores and Transport separately. Dinners began at 12.45pm onwards. The Commanding Officer, Second-in-Command and Adjutant went round each dinner. A short speech was made at each, and the two messages from Their Majesties The King and Queen, (copies attached) read out to each. Concerts followed and suppers later in the evening. All arrangements throughout the Battalion were excellent, and it was quite the best Christmas we had spent . In the morning the Officers played the Officers of the 5th GLOUCESTERS at Football, result 1 all. In the evening all the Officers dined together at Headquarter Mess. The Cure kindly offered his largest room, and all the extra crockery etc that he had. He also was the guest of the evening. Only a very few speeches were made, and the evening passed off excellently. In addition a very kind letter was received from the Secretary of the County Association enclosing a cheque for £50 raised by the President, Members of the Berkshire Territorial Force Association, and some of the residents of Berkshire for the provision of Christmas gifts for the men. The Association wished the Commanding Officer, and all ranks the very best of good wishes for Christmas and the New Year and a telegram to this effect was also received. The following messages were received:- From GENL SIR HERBERT PLUMER GCMG, GCVO, KCB, ADC Commander in Chief, British Forces in Italy: 'SIR HERBERT PLUMER wishes all ranks every good wish for Xmas and every success in the New Year' From LIEUT-GENL SIR R C B HAKING KCB, Commanding XI Army Corps (copy attached) From MAJOR-GENL R FANSHAWE KCB, DSO Commanding 48th Division (copy attached) Weather:- a fine day.
