Entry Arrived at VILLE FRANCHE 5.15am - 3 hours late. Hot coffee was issued and horses were watered etc. Left 6.50am. Thence via LYONVAISE - VOULTEBUR, RHONE. Two hours halt was made here. Thence to LE TIEL. Here we halted for 3 hours: Coffee was issued as soon as we arrived - 4.45pm. Tea was made and issued later. The journey was continued through grand scenery and beautiful country - a change and revelation to many. Weather:- a fine day, cold night. [Second train] We arrived at GRAY at 5.30am where the train halted for half-an-hour, thence travelling via LONS where the men washed and shaved, and were supplied with hot tea. BOURG was reached at 2.45pm, where a halt was made and horses watered. The carriages and trucks were swept and blankets shaken. The journey was then continued via CHAMBERY where we halted for 20 minutes - arriving ST JEAN DE LORRAINE at 9.30pm. Where hot coffee was issued to the men. Weather:- a fine day, cold night.
