Regiment | 1/4th Royal Berkshire |

Location | France, Trenches |
Entry | We were relieved by the 4th GLOSTERS. Relief completed at 1.50am. On the 9th. We returned to DAMBRE CAMP, all very tired. The continued shelling had been most trying to all ranks. Casualties for the 3 days and nights were 1 Officer, Lt A Austen-Leigh, wounded, 11 OR killed and 30 OR wounded. The reason of the Battalion suffering such few casualties was chiefly owing to the successful leading and handling of their Commands by the Company Officers and NCOs who were well backed up by all their men. Weather:- a misty morning, very heavy thunderstorm at night. Remarks A. 4 |
