Entry The BRIGADE relieved the 33rd BRIGADE during the night. We were on the RIGHT FRONT, the BUCKS - LEFT FRONT, OXFORDS - RIGHT SUPPORT, GLOSTERS - LEFT SUPPORT. The BRIGADE took over the HERMIES Sector. Dispositions:- 3 Companies up, 3 Platoons of each Company, one in local support. 1 Company in Battalion Reserve. "B" "C" and "D" Companies were the front Companies. The Battalion marched to the Transport Lines at VELU at 2pm., and after tea moved up to their positions, the relief being completed by 1.15am (15th) We took over from the 9th SHERWOODS, their Commanding Officer being LIEUT COLONEL THORNTON, of our 1st Battalion. The village was in much the same state as other villages which the enemy had vacated. Their machine guns were busy all the night. Weather:- a very sultry day with heavy thunder rain in the evening. Remarks The CO returned to the Battalion, the Brigadier having returned to the Brigade. See Map attached. O.O. No 39.
