War Diary

1917-05-12
Regiment 1/4th Royal Berkshire
Location France, Doingts
Entry The Brigade moved to COMBLES, leaving about 6.30am. And moving via CLERY and MAUREPAS, - a very hot and tiring march, during many men fell out. The Corps Commander passed the Brigade at one of the halts and asked the Acting Brigadier to tell all ranks in the Brigade how pleased he was with them for their behaviour and gallant conduct while they had been in his Corps, and how very sorry he was that the Brigade were leaving him. The head of the Brigade arrived at COMBLES about 10.30a.m., coming in the XV Corps Area. The Country passed through was very desolate, and in many places foul, giving quite a depressing felling to everyone. Weather:- a very hot day.
