War Diary

1917-04-26
Regiment 1/4th Royal Berkshire
Location France, [Slag heap]
Entry In conjunction with the attack made by the 59th DIVISION on the RIGHT, we co-operated by sending out patrols:- (1) To the WOOD in A.19.d. - this was found to be held in strength by the enemy. (2) From the centre of D Company's trenches - they proceeded about 300 yards up the valley where they encountered the enemy in force in Rifle Pits etc. (3) A Strong point was made in F.24.a with a good view down the valley. The enemy again put down their barrage at dusk, and there was intermittent shooting all night. The snipers of D Company were very busy most of the day, with good results. Weather:- a lovely day.
