Regiment 1st Royal Berkshire
Location France, CUINCHY
Entry A patrol of 3 went out at 2am to reconnoitre new craters formed early yesterday morning. No enemy seen but they were heard digging a sap just in front of their parapet. Our snipers and Trench Mortar Battery under 2/Lt Tyson obtained direct hits on an enemy working party at 3.30pm. No further movement observed. One of B Coys snipers, on our right, killed a German who was on top of the parapet repairing it. We put up notices announcing the great naval victory at RIGA. One Officer per Coy and 1 NCO per platoon from the Royal Welch Fusiliers spent the night in our line to learn it with a view to relieving us tomorrow. No minenwerfers today. Capt Getting returned from leave. Five men sent on leave.
