War Diary

1915-08-21
Regiment 1st Royal Berkshire
Location France, CUINCHY
Entry A fairly quiet day. An excellent system was arranged by which any company if minenwerfered, could get artillery retaliation within 30 seconds. The Companies were laid on direct to the batteries and directly a minenwerfer came over the sentry on duty sent the word "Minnie" along the line. Also the sentries on duty in the trenches blew a whistle when, as was often the case, they saw the minenwerfer come wobbling over. Nine of these came over about 5.45pm , but no damage was done. We buried Captain Weston and the others at 5pm in the Battalion Church Yard near CUINCHY CHURCH. D Company relieved A Coy in the centre section.
