Entry | Work as per programme. Baths were allotted at HALLENCOURT to the Battalion in the morning and afternoon, 50 men per hour bathing, clean underclothing being provided. The Transport of the Brigade was inspected in the afternoon and a most satisfactory report was received. The horses, vehicles and men all turned out in excellent condition reflecting the greatest credit on all concerned: the cookers especially receiving praise. A Football Match versus the 1/5TH GLOSTERS was played, being one of the rounds of the FANSHAWE CUP. Result - 1/4th ROYAL BERKSHIRE REGIMENT 1 goal, 1/5TH GLOUCESTER REGIMENT, Nil. A Lecture was given by the Commanding Officer in the afternoon on the Report of the Defence of GOMMECOURT - a captured document which had been translated. The Commanding Officer went to the Brigade, taking over the duties of Acting Brigadier whilst the Brigadier was on leave. Weather:- a fine cold day. Remarks MAJOR J N ALDWORTH MC, took over command of the Battalion. CAPT O B CHALLENOR was posted to D Company, CAPT J H GOOLDEN was appointed temporary Transport Officer. CAPT H TRIPP temporary Lewis Gun Officer. LT S G LARN took over temporary command of A Company, 2/LT W O DOWN assumed command of B Company. |
