Home of the Infantry Regiments of Berkshire and Wiltshire

War Diary

1916-11-25
Regiment 1/4th Royal Berkshire
Location France, [The trenches]
Entry We were relieved by the OXFORDS after dark returning to PEAKE WOOD CENTRAL CAMP. Each Company called at the VILLA Soup Kitchen on the way back. The Battalion was very tired after a trying time in the trenches: everyone was wet through. Tents only without floor-boards and no extras, formed the Camp. A Battalion Canteen was started, everything being bought from the Expeditionary Force Canteens and sold at cost price. By adopting this system all ranks in the Battalion could get extras. Remarks Casualties: (3 days) 5 killed, 13 wounded.
