Entry | The Battalion relieved the BUCKS in the left sector, leaving at 4p.m. The dispositions were:- 143 and 144 Brigade relieved each other while one Battalion of the 145 Brigade was on their left i.e. making a Brigade of 5 Battalions. 143 and 144 Brigades relieved every four days, but the Battalion of the 145 Brigade relieved every two. Owing to the amount of work to be done, large working parties were required from the Battalions out of the line day and night. It was most difficult to find them and owing to the hard conditions of the front line, the numbers had to be cut down. The new Acting Brigadier reported in the afternoon - Lt Col WATT (2nd GHURKAS) commanding 7th WEST RIDING REGIMENT. Major BATTCOCK took the Battalion up to the trenches. The following officers left and joined the second Battalion:- CAPT LACEY-SMITH LIEUTS AXWORTHY, CABESPINE, HARRISON, NEALON, McDERMOTT, PARSONS. The dispositions were as follows:- Right Front Coy - B Left do - D Right Support Coy - C Left do - A Frontage - Right Front Coy SCOTLAND TRENCH and CHALK TRENCH Left do SCOTLAND TRENCH and CHALK TRENCH Right Support Coy 3 Platoons in O.G1. South of the main road, one Platoon in DESTREMONT FARM. Left Support Coy 3 posts in RAVINE TRENCH, the remainder of the Company in O.G1. north of the main road. Headquarters 26th AVENUE. The right flank was in touch with a Battalion of the 143 or 144 Brigade, the left with the CANADIANS. |
