War Diary

1916-11-18
Regiment 1/4th Royal Berkshire
Location France, [Martinpuich]
Entry No work was possible owing to the weather. The GLOSTERS relieved us after dark, and owing to our S.O.S. being put up by the Germans on our right, our guns put up a big barrage which was replied to by the enemy. This firing kept up on and off all the night, and made relief very costly and difficult. Two left Company Platoons could not get back to their new positions until dawn. B and A moved back to their old positions in support, D to PRUE TRENCH, C to 26th AVENUE, BHQ to MARTINPUICH. Everyone was wet through, and it was a hard experience for all. Weather:- a very wet and cold day, very dark night. Hail and snow storms at frequent intervals. Remarks Casualties: 2/Lt TURNER R H wounded. 2 killed, 13 wounded.
