Entry | Relieved 2/South Staffords in subsection A2 i.e. CUINCHY SECTOR at 1pm. Battn all were in CUINCHY VILLAGE. B Coy on the right, D company in the centre and C Coy on left. A Coy in support. A good many alterations had been made since we were last in the line, it was a great satisfaction to find some really useful trench mortars near the Brickstacks. Our trench mortaring about 7pm drew a moderate "hate". 2/Lt Rex left Battalion to join his own Regt 1st Bn Bedfords. 2/Lts Tyson and Gomez went on leave. At 6.30pm an airship was reported going north over LA BASSEE. At 7pm a Zeppelin was reported going South in the same direction. We could see nothing. A quiet night. A good deal of work had to be done repairing damage caused by enemy's six inch shells near brickstacks. The Huns bombed one of our sap heads. An unfortunate accident occurred just before going into the trenches. Detonators were being issued to A Coy bombers when one was dropped and exploded wounding five men. |
