Entry The Battalion relieved the 4th GLOSTERS in the Right GOMMECOURT Sector in the morning, the relief being completed by noon. Companies left at 8.0a.m. onwards with half an hours interval between Companies. Dispositions B Right Front Company D Left do do A in Support C in Reserve See map attached. The trenches were in excellent condition, considering all the rain that had fallen lately, but some of them had not been opened since the attack made here on July 1st. Working parties of 220 men were found for work under the REs in the evening. The enemy's guns were fairly active most of the afternoon and their "Minnies" at night. Weather:- a fine day. Remarks Capt Holcroft rejoined the Battn. Major Aldworth left to attend a Commanding Officer's Course at ALDERSHOT. We were sorry to lose him at this time. He made the Coy and under his command it always did well. Casualties:- 12 wounded.
