Entry | All day was spent in bivouacs. We relieved the 7th R WARWICKS at 5p.m. onwards, holding the trenches on the West of POZIERES. Dispositions as follows:- C Company - in Support B Company - 2 Platoons in the Front Line, 2 in Support. A & D in Reserve at the bivouacs. HQ were in an old German dug-out in LA BOISSELLE, very well made, and it gave one some idea of all the work the enemy had put in during the time they had been holding their front. The whole village ruins were very foul. The trenches were in a very bad state, parts of them very shallow and the dead were unburied - some of them had probably been there for 10 days. Their Guns were very actve all the evening and night, chiefly 15c and 21c. Their lines appeared to be very strongly held and they were very alert. Weather:- a fine day. Remarks Casualties:- 1 died of Wounds, 15 Wounded, 7 Gassed. Reinforcement of 44 joined the Battalion. |
