Entry Work in the trenches as on the 9th. A Coy relieved B Coy: C relieved D, D to PORT GROSVENOR, B to bivouacs at SAILLY. Brigade Conference was held at 2.30p.m. re the new trench to be dug, Major BATTCOCK attending. A new trench from the first Barricade to the SERRE ROAD. It was about 700 yards straight: the 3 communication trenches, RAOUL 140 yds, BUGEAUD 280 yads, WATSON 220 yads. The digging parties were found by the 4th OXFORDS, the BUCKS and ourselves finding the Covering party. Our Covering party was 2 officers and 50 men in groups of 5, about 30 yards interval. No wire was put up. Total Casualties - 3 killed, 9 wounded. The moon was very bright and the enemy kept up Machine Gun fire continuously and 77m shells intermittently all the night. Their guns were fairly active all the day. Weather:- a lovely day. Remarks Capt Lewis went to the 6th Warwicks as Second in Command. Casualties:- 1 killed, 2 wounded.
