Entry Work as on the 26th. COIGNEUX party fround from D Company. Lewis guns practised a tactical exercise under Major Battcock, C Coy were inspected by the Brigadier at 10a.m. in fighting order. A badge to distinguish the Battalion from others was selected by the Commanding Officer - a heart cut out in Royal Blue serge to be attached to the back of the covers of the steel helmets; the cost of both covers and serge were met by the Christmas Funds. Fighting dress as follows:- 2 sandbags to be worn on the front of the belt: 2 Mills Grenades carried in the pockets: a bandolier of 50 rounds over the right shoulder: Iron Rations and what would be left of the present days issue carried in the haversack: Cardigan and SD Cap, or woollen Cap, in the haversack. Waterproof sheet on the outside of the haversack: a tin triangle to be fastened to the outside of the haversack, 50% to carry picks and shovels in the proportion of one to two, these would be slung. A copy of notes of various odd details issued to Platoon Commanders is attached. Weather:- a wet day.
