Home of the Infantry Regiments of Berkshire and Wiltshire

War Diary

1916-06-04
Regiment 1/4th Royal Berkshire
Location France, Maison-Roland
Entry The Brigade changed their billets to the North of the area. We moved to GAPENNES independently leaving 9.0a.m. arriving at 11.15a.m. We received a very friendly send off from the inhabitants of MAISON-ROLAND. During our stay there the Battalion had made friends with all the inhaditants and had quite changed the hostile feeling which was shown when we first marched in. The billets at GAPENNES were fairly comfortable. Here again we received a hostile reception from the inhabitants on our arrival, this feeling was entirely caused by the behaviour of the troops who had been billeted there before us. Weather: a fine day.
