Location France, Hebuterne
Entry Working parties as on the 22nd. The enemy's guns were again most active all day, especially in the afternoon. This was one of the worst days bombardments we have experiened, over 1000 shells falling in our Sector alone. Shells of all calibres, including several new ones fell during the day. Their Machine Guns were again most active all day. A patrol, in charge of Lieut Wells. Went out from 'M' Sap at 9.0p.m. and worked south: they located a large working party on the enemy's wire; they returned about 11.0p.m. The early part of the night was quiet but at 1.15a.m. (24th) the enemy again bombarded our new line, doing a certain amount of damage to the trench. Weather: a fine day and night. Remarks Capt Battcock and Lieut Calder went to BAYENCOURT for rest.
