Entry A and C Companies relieved B and D Coys by 10.0a.m. Working parties on pumping and clearing, day and night. The enemy's guns were more active all day, the Right Company getting the majority of the shells. Their Machine Guns also were much more active. A patrol in charge of Lieut Hine went out from 'M' Sap at 9p.m. they worked up to the enemy's wire, then turned North, and returned about 11p.m. : nothing of importance was seen. At 12.30a.m. (23rd) the enemy opened a very heavy bombardment for six minutes, firing 400 to 500 shells and "minnies". Shells of all calibres, up to 5.9s, falling on the new and front line trenches. Weather: a fine morning and wet afternoon. Remarks Casualties - Lt Duff and 3 men wounded and one shell shock.
