1916-03-31
Regiment 1/4th Royal Berkshire
Location France, Sailly
Entry The morning was spent in the usual way after relief, and the Quartermaster inspected clothing. The Commanding Officer held a Conference of Coy Commanders at 12.40p.m. Battalion Sports were held in the afternoon and a Concert of "local talent" was given in the evening to celebrate the anniversary of the landing in France of the Battalion. Weather: a lovely day. Signed R.J.Clarke Lt Col Commanding 1/4th Royal Berks Regt. Remarks Lts Field, Calder & Goolden went on leave. During the month of MARCH a Company Pioneer Section was formed, on the same lines as the Regimental Section, which had proved such a great success. Only trained Grenadiers formed this Company Section and in case of an "alarm" they would at once report to the OC Company for orders. This system of the Regimental and Company Pioneer Section has proved an unqualified success. During the month the following units were on our Right & Left. RIGHT A Battalion of the 12th Brigade, followed by a Battn of the 144th Brigade. LEFT The Oxfords, 5th Closters and Bucks Battn alternately. Signed R J Clarke Lt Col Comdg 1/4th Royal Berks Regt.
