| Entry | B and D Companies relieved A & C Companies by 6.0p.m. At 1.30a.m. the enemy opened a very heavy bombardment on the Brigade on our left lasting for about 11/4 hours. At 6.30p.m.they opened another heavy bombardment on the Brigade on our Right, lasting abour 45 minutes; gas shells were being fired. Their working parties in front of us were very busy and many words of English were heard as "hurry up" "put it down there" "dig that hole deeper" "bring those stakes along" etc. About 11p.m. two of their aeroplanes passed over the village going north. Weather:- a fine day and night. |
