Location | France, Hebuterne |
Entry | Working parties as on the 24th - morning and evening. A and C Companies relieved B and D Companies by 3.30p.m. At 2.0a.m. three Very Lights were fired in rapid succession from the "16 POPLARS". These were followed by heavy bombardment on the Warwick trenches and FONCQUEUILLERS: most of the fire came from their batteries near BOIS DE BIEZ. The bombardment lasted about 40 minutes and our Batteries too were shelled during the latter part. At 2.20a.m. during the bombardment, one of their patrols threw four bombs into "M" Sap. The Lewis Gun at the Trench End of the sap at once opened fire - no damage was done. Enemy guns fired 8 shells in the afternoon near the shrine - all "duds" again. Nine hostile aeroplanes passed over our lines in the morning. A patrol of 6 men from "A" Company in charge of Lieuts Oldacre and Austen-Leigh recconnoitred the grass and hedge in front of "M" Sap. There were no signs of the enemy occupation there. Weather:- a fine day, cold night. Remarks Casualty:- 1 died of wounds. |
