Entry Working parties as on the 11th. The enemy sent about 40 green lights at 4.0a.m. starting from GOMMECOURT WOOD along their first and second lines to FERME SANS NOM, BOIS ROSSIGNOL and then back. Their snipers were more active most of the day. Enemy guns put about a dozen shells near the BRICKFIELDS about 1.30p.m. and another dozen by the CHATEAU and CHURCH about 5.30p.m. A patrol in charge of Lieut Goolden went out about 6.30p.m. from MORAND: after proceeding about 150yds towards the opposite lines they were fired on, one man being hit. As the moon was then shining too brightly the patrol returned. Another patrol went out from A Company to examine the LASCELLE Hedge but the water from our trenches had converted the ground into a quagmire and it was impossible to proceed. Remarks 2Lts Down, Teer and Awaten-Leigh joined the Battalion. Casualties:- 2 wounded.
