Entry | Working parties as on the 29th. Our Artillery carried out a pre-arranged bombardment between 12p.m. & 1.30p.m. on the German front line trenches between GOMMECOURT and FERME SANS NOM. The enemy replied on our Right Company and Communication trenches in a most vigorous manner - no damage was done. Our Battery positions & SAILLY village were shelled from long range. At 11p.m. the enemy opened rapid fire, sent up rockets, and put a few shells on our Right to bring the New Year in. At 12 mid-night a fire-work display was given from our front line trenches all along the Brigade front, and in some cases rapid fire was opened. Our Artillery were expected to shell, but did not do so. Weather:- a fine day, showery in the evening. During the month of December the BUCKS Battn were on our Left and the 5th GLOSTERS on our Right.
