Regiment 1/4th Royal Berkshire
Location France, Hebuterne
Entry Working parties on Communication Trenches and Battalion Reserve Line. A new system was commenced, a small party of 12 men being told off as a permanent working party. They will be excused all trench duties and except on special occasions will always have a full night's rest; good results are expected, as when once they take any work in hand they will be able to keep at it until it is finished, thus obviating a great loss of time and labour by the ordinary frequent changes in the working parties. A report will be sent with next months Diary on the result of this scheme. The Enemy's Guns were very active all day, firing on the Brickfields, village and Front Line at intervals from morning until night. Weather:- a fine day with some rain at night.
