Entry | The trenches show no improvement in spite of continual pumping day and night: the dug-outs began to fall in too. The trenches became drains for the land as the water was rising even when the pumps were going. "A" and "C" companies relieved "B" and "D" companies in the afternoon, the attached platoons of the 20th MANCHESTERS not going up. The enemy fired 24 shells into GUDIN in the morning. By night the enemy's flares seemed to be sent up from their second line - possibly their front line had been temporarily abandoned. Weather:- a wet day and night. |
