War Diary

1915-12-01
Regiment 1/4th Royal Berkshire
Location France, Hebuterne
Entry All working parties were employed in trying to cope with the mud and water in the trenches, which were in a deplorable state owing to the incessant rain. All the fire trenches, were knee-deep in liquid mud, and in many places waist-deep: several men had to be dug out. The enemy's guns were quiet all day. A far larger percentge of "duds" have been fired lately by them, and we notice a change in the quality of their shells. Two green poles, painted to resemble trees have been erected opposite our Right Section. Weather:- a fine morning: wet afternoon and night.
