Entry | The 145th brigade relieved the 144th at the usual times, but we relieved the 4th GLOSTERS at 1.30p.m. onwards. Owing to the hard frost the "going" was good. "A" and "C" Companies took over trenches: "B" Company to the KEEP; "D" Company to the CHATEAU. In consequence of the frozen state of the ground no work on the trenches themselves was possible. The HQ and "A" Company of the 20th MANCHESTERS were attached to us for six days for instruction: we made the same arrangements for billeting their HQ as for the last Battalion attached to us. One platoon of their Company was attached to each of our Companies. When in the trenches, each of their Company did 24 hours individual instruction and 24 hours platoon instruction. The last two days their Company took over complete charge of a section of the line, under our Battalion orders. Weather:- A cold day with hard frost at night. Remarks Lieut Ward returned from Leave. |
