Entry "A" Company relieved "B" at 3.30p.m. The HQ and "A" Company 13th Royal Irish Rifles were attached for a further course of instruction for eight days. They had already completed their initial course with the Warwicks Brigade. The same arrangements re meeting and guides were carried out and worked smoothly. Their "A" Company relieved "D" Company at 4p.m. taking over complete charge of the Left Section just as though they were one of our own Companies. Their HQ were [sentence incomplete] The enemy's working parties were very active all the afternoon from GOMMECOURT CEMETARY to FERME SANS NOM. A big display of coloured lights was sent up at 8.0p.m. about 150 red and green alternately from GOMMECOURT CEMETARY to the PUISIEUX ROAD; they were not fired towards our trenches, but fell near their own front line. A fixed lamp was observed from 8 to 9.30p.m. in the S Corner of GOMMERCOURT CEMETARY. Their MGs and snipers were unusually active all the day, possibly on account of the snow. Weather:- Snow fell again in the early morning. A fine morning, misty in the afternoon, and a hard frost at night. Remarks 2/Lt Hine was trans. to "C" Coy. Capt A L I Friend and Lieut Ansell 7th Dragoon Gds were attached to the Battn for 28 days, and were posted to "A" & "C" Coys respectively.
