Entry | The 145th Brigade relieved the 144th, 10.30a.m. onwards, our relief commencing about 11.30a.m. The bad state of the roads made the relief slower than usual, the "going" being very heavy. The same arrangements as before were made and worked well. "A" & "C" companies look over the front line: "B" Company going to the KEEP, "D" Company to the CHATEAU. The trenches were in a deplorable state owing to the heavy rains, the walls falling in in many places, and small ponds of water formed between the landslips. The dug-out too, in many cases, were useless and sleeping accommodation was practiacally nil. Two pumps only were obtained from the REs. There were about 100 pairs long rubber boots available, and these proved invaluable. The two companies were working day and night, and all available men from "D" Company were sent up to assist. Weather:- Heavy rain by day and night. Remarks Copy of System for drying socks attached. Capt Thorne returned from Hospital |
