Entry | Working parties for the morning from D Company. Brigade Conference 12.0 noon re dispositions in case of an attack. D Coy relieved C Coy at 2p.m.; 2 Platoons of B Company 2 Platoons of A Company at 7.0p.m. All the Divisional guns opened fire at 3 and again at 5p.m. on the trenches and communication trenches opposite our lines. All troops in the village took to the cellars and dug-outs whilst the bombardment was being carried out. The enemy's reply was small but they made some good shooting at the Batteries at 6p.m. The shooting of our guns was fairly general, with special points being more heavily shelled than others. Sniping was kept up all night by guns, MG and rifles on the points where most damage had been done. A lovely day: a thunderstorm came up at 5.30p.m. with rain most of the night. About 7.30a.m. 15 Allied Aeroplanes crossed the enemy's line and were subjected to heavy fire. |
