Entry "A" Company relieved the 13th MANCHESTERS at 3p.m. All Companies in the KEEP found working parties for the RE and are not under Command of their Battalions. The enemy fired a few shells into the village in the morning, and also 3 incendiary shells into SAILLY. Officers & men on leave were unable to return owing to the Channel being closed by mines or submarines. A lovely day. A patrol, under Lieut Godden (1 NCO & 2men) went out from trench MORAND stating at 9p.m. They moved in the direction of the right Corner of GOMMECOURT WOOD about 350 yards out. Here they saw a patrol of Germans, and our patrol being the weaker had to return as they had been sent out with instructions not to fight. Remarks Casualty: 1 wounded.
