Entry | "A" Company relieved the 13th MANCHESTERS at 3p.m. All Companies in the KEEP found working parties for the RE and are not under Command of their Battalions. The enemy fired a few shells into the village in the morning, and also 3 incendiary shells into SAILLY. Officers & men on leave were unable to return owing to the Channel being closed by mines or submarines. A lovely day. A patrol, under Lieut Godden (1 NCO & 2men) went out from trench MORAND stating at 9p.m. They moved in the direction of the right Corner of GOMMECOURT WOOD about 350 yards out. Here they saw a patrol of Germans, and our patrol being the weaker had to return as they had been sent out with instructions not to fight. Remarks Casualty: 1 wounded. |
