Entry | The Battalion relieved the 4th GLOSTERS in the trenches, taking up the new section of the line, BOUILLET to MORAND, this section being the left centre, leaving :- B Coy, D Coy, A Coy, C Coy, HQ - at 7.0a.m. and 20 minutes interval. From SAILLY each Company used trench LARREY. As two Battalions used this trench at the same time, there was naturally some congestion. All transport left AUTHIE in rear of the Battalion, the Cookers alone going with their Companies. The following positions were taken up:- A Company - 1Platoon in BRICKFIELDS 1 Platoon in Orchard by BIRON B Company formed part of the Garrison of the KEEP C Company took over the left Section of our line, l.e. half BATAILLE - MORAND Communcation trench. The right Section of our line was held by a company of the 13th MANCHESTERS, who were in the trenches for instruction. D Company in billets near the RED CHATEAU, forming the local reserve. Battn HQ & QM Stores at RED HOUSE and house adjoining. All trench Stores were taken over from the 4th GLOSTERS, except periscopes and Very Pistols. In the afternoon two 4.2 shells fell on the roof of the QM Stores - there were 90 holes in the ceiling of the Qr Mr's Office. The rations and meat were ready for issue and the men were working in the Stores. Everything was covered with dust, but fortunately no one was hit. A very hot day. |
