Regiment 1/4th Royal Berkshire
Location France, Authie
Entry "D" Company and half of "A" Coy found working parties in the woods between AUTHIE and BUS. The CO and Company Commanders rode out to inspect the ground N of BUS, near point 136 before practising the attack. The III Army Commander inspected the Battalion at 4.30p.m. in the field just clear of the village on the MARIEUX Road. It was drawn up in the old quarter column formation, with twelve paces interval, the Battalion staff only being mounted. The Brigadier and Divisional General were also present. The Inspecting Officer walked down the front of each Company; the Companies in front were closed on the rear Company and a short speech was made to them. The Battalion certainly was excellent; they stood well and handled their arms in a way that no fault could be found with them, and they deserved the praise given then. A lovely day. Remarks Copy attached.
